Mineral: Siderite on Orthoclase
Locality: Medina, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Dimensions: 32 x 30 x 41 cm / main crystal: 32 cm.

Description: Mass: 27800 g MIM number: 2204 Huge olive-green rhombohedral monocrystal perched on a white orthoclase matrix offering an astonishing contrast. It is very rare to find such a large and well-formed crystal for this species. The siderite is translucent under strong light up to a few millimeters thickness. The specimen was found as is, as evidenced by the small crystals of other minerals (including fluorite) that dot the faces of the orthoclase. Photographer: AINU / Augustin de Valence
