Mineral: Barite
Locality: Lubin Mine, Lubin, Lubin District, Legnica, Lower Silesia, Poland
Dimensions: 8.5 cm across
Description: These Barytes with marcasite were found in summer 2011 in the Lubin Glowny Mine. According to Tom, a miner was excavating black shales, when he crossed a large fault. After mining a few meters in the limestone roof above the shale, he exposed a large cavity. The cavity had the shape of a vertical chimney, about 5 meters high. At the end of chimney, the pocket curved and changed to a long, irregular tunnel, about 11 meters long. The pocket was so large that it was possible to stand up in some parts. The entire pocket was covered by kidney-shaped Baryte covered by sparkly and colorful marcasite crystals. During the short time that the pocket was exposed, the miners took photos and collected specimens. Some of the specimens reached about 50 cm in size.
