It looks like I am going to be spending my weeks in Gothenburg, Sweden for the next few months and might even have some weekends here. Do FMF members have any helpful ideas about mineral related things I can do in the area?

I am from Gothenburg and grew up collecting the local quarries, mines and roadcuts since 1966/1970 (my first still kep specimens collected in 1966 but from 1970 I was very active collector). Most quarries are fairly difficult to find and of course one must ask the landowner for permission. Some weekends I used to visit 20 different quarries, in summer 20 hrs sunshine and 24 hrs collecting, but some others I spent years to even find in the deep forests.
Most colelctors in the area has never found very much and few if any specimens are spectacular. Most are frozen crystals but many areas has some small fissures or vugs for the dedicated colelctor. There are thousands of mines within some hours drive but if you only have evenings and no weekends you have to settle for the few hundred near the city. Best is to get geological maps from the geological survey and some publications to find some quarries. Peter
