Delaware the "Diamond State"

Per my request of some help to find an image to head this thread of Delaware I received this image from Bob Weaver.
Thanks again Bob

Most of the surface geology of Delaware is composed of Cretaceous and later sandstones. You might find a few phosphates as they do (or did) at Mullica Hill in New Jersey, but otherwise there's not much to hope for.

The northern tip of Delaware - the north part of New Castle County - gets into Paleozoic metamorphic(?) rocks that are better known for their minerals from adjacent Chester County, Pennsylvania. Mindat.org has an extensive list of minerals from New Castle County, Delaware.

Development in that area is extensive, meaning there will be few collecting localities, though certainly some still must exist. Ephemeral sites (i.e. shopping centers under construction) might be good opportunities....

Perhaps this analysis helps explain the shortage of mineral pictures from Delaware!

This is the Almandine I found myself here in DE. It is from the retired spar pits known as the Woodlawn Quarry. Very tiny poor quality aquamarines have been found here too. I know the Newark Schorls were found while land was being developed. It seems that the better stuff is from geology spilling over from Pennsylvania. When our pool was dug, there was nothing interesting in the ground, but a little further north and around Brandywine Creek State Park and the Woodlawn Trustees Territory, the soil has flecks of mica and bits of orthoclase. You can tell the geology gets a little bit more interesting, but still nothing flashy or collectable.

Hi Jordi,

Am still a bit puzzled as to how to properly post images except insofar as starting a new topic or sending a reply to someone's post. However, seeing that you successfully linked to my album of Maryland Minerals in Picasa, I've started an album of images of Delaware minerals in Picasa at this site:
https://picasaweb.google.com/uniqueculinaryadventures/MineralsOfDelaware#
(link normalized by FMF)

As your email seemed to suggest a different format that you could normalize, you might prefer:
https://picasaweb.google.com/uniqueculinaryadventures/MineralsOfDelaware#
(link normalized by FMF)

Please note that your email of 12./24 had indicated a link to a post on my Mineral Bliss blog, which was mostly editorial and fewer photos. The Picasa site noted herein, of course has the framework so that any user can view a slide show. Also, any individual photo can be downloaded---or for that matter, I can upload to the Forum indivdual images of both Maryland and Delaware minerals, once the protocol becomes more clear to me, which should happen soon enough.

Best regards,

Jake Slagle

A new image for Delaware from Turbo -> https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?p=7430#7430

Thanks Turbo!

Another self-collected specimen from the Woodlawn Quarry, Wilmington, DE. This is a typical glinting pegmatite from this site composed of muscovite, white plagioclase, and quartz. Occasionally these pegmatites feature almandine as an accessory mineral.
