As I am well known for my love of "ugly" minerals, I should mention the danburite nodules from the shales associated with the Louann Salt Formation. They are white and cauliflower-like, looking a bit like the California howlite nodules. I don't have a photo, but there are photos in the literature.

In my task for adequate and recharge the threads of the "A mineralogical trip through the states of USA" I would need some more image for this state, specially complicated for minerals. If some FMFer has some, please send it to me by PM or publish it directly in this thread.

Thank you so much!

In my catalog of nearly 6000 entries, I don't have a single entry for Mississippi! Certainly there should be a calcite crystal, a phosphate deposit, or some minerals from an offshore drilling system someplace....!!!!

Though I did not do a thorough read-through, the entries in Mindat for Mississippi are not very encouraging either.

Maybe they ain't got no minerals down there....

The best minerals in Mississippi are in glass cases in the home of Jimmy and Hisami MacNeill, although I don't think any of them came out of the ground in Mississippi ;))

Mindat has 5 photos of Mississippi minerals and all 5 of them are pyrites. Like Pete said - not very encouraging.

Somewhere I have a research paper on danburite and some rare borate species in an anhydrite or saltdome caprock in Mississippi; I shall have to find it and add the information to Mindat. For me, those species are more interesting than pyrite, although they're probably tiny.

Regards,
Alfredo
