PostPosted: Sep 11, 2012 07:13    Post subject: The collection of Pierre and Riana Joubert

When I view some collections of a few fellow 'rock hounds' in South Africa, I actually feel totally unworthy to present our humble collection; nevertheless, some are self collected from areas where few have access and in a sense makes them more special. I hope to upload most pieces in a week or two.

This Quartz specimen, a 'floater' has bits of feldspar attached; and a few needles of rutile. The yellow coloring is probably due to iron oxide? I cannot remember whether Riana or myself removed this crystal.

What would a collection be without a Rhodo, even just a small one?! :-)

Hi, Pierre and Riana!

Many thanks for posting your photos at FMF.

It is highly recommended to combine several photos in a single post to prevent the system from sending too many notifications to the readers. It is very easy. After completing the upload of the first photo, just fill again the Filename box and start with the next. And so on.

Please, keep posting.

Very nice pieces Pierre, I am partial to thumbnail sized pieces and miniatures, but the large smoky quartz from Erongo (100_1724.JPG) is breathtaking. Thank you for sharing, Marv

Hi Marv. Thank you for your kind comment. I must admit, large specimens are impressive, but we also prefer thumbnails. They are (in general) more affordable and near perfect specimens are far easier obtainable than larger pieces(and they take little space). Best regards:-)

Humble, indeed not Pierre. Outstanding. And by the sweat of your own brow, nicely done. I like hands for scale. Keep up the pursuit and good luck.
More please.

Thanks Vic. Only some are self collected; the others purchased. I am battling with the photography and hope to put some more specimens up soon. Best regards.
