PostPosted: Sep 17, 2013 03:23    Post subject: Denver 2013 snapshot

I attended the Denver Gem and Mineral Show this year with friends Olga & Kevin Nicholson. It has been 5 years since I have been to a major show so shopping was a priority and taking photos was often forgotten about, but here are a few. If anyone has more feel free to add them.
Enjoy
Greg

Very nice pictures, Greg, thanks for posting & sharing them! Even for those of us who were at the show, it's hard to see everything, and though I took a number of pictures too... impossible to photograph all the "neat specimens" that are were keeping in memory!

You covered it mate. I saw more in your post than I did being there. I ran for the hills.
Awesome Afghanistan amethyst. Thanks for the image.

Thanks everyone.
Yes, love my new descloizite thanks Mike, it's complete all around but the back side is not as bright as the front. Luckily Charles of Lexcel Minerals was very patient as I visited it 4 times before making the decision to buy it.
Cheers

Hi Greg,

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your report. Very much, I enjoyed going through it. As always (!!!), I am amazed to find I missed sooooo many things while there. The amethyst scepter matrix plate I thought especially amazing and well shot.

All the very best,

John

PostPosted: Oct 13, 2013 06:22    Post subject: Re: Denver 2013 snapshot

Great photos and a fine show report Greg. I was there as well and I have to say that I saw very little that was new and exciting except for some unbelievable quartzes from Inner Mongolia and a new occurrence of cavansite and pentagonite in mordenite from the Wagholi quarry, Pune, Maharashtra, India. I am attaching some photos that I was lucky enough to get Jeff Scovil to take for me. I think they are quite beautiful and I understand that there will be more of them at the Munich Show. Another oddity for me that I spotted in Denver is a rock described as K2 stone because it is allegedly found at the base of K2 Mountain in Pakistan. It is a fine-grained granite-like rock with spheres of azurite dispersed throughout. It is so bizarre that it actually looks artificial but I was convinced that it is completely natural. It is being cut into a variety of cabochon shapes. The Sept/Oct 2013 issue of Lapidary Journal carries an article about this material.

The new cavansites looks pretty nice and very different from the ones we knew.
Thank you for the images John.
