PostPosted: Feb 18, 2009 18:18    Post subject: Re: Tucson Gail Spann Show report.

You know, I kind of figured that out Steve. I wonder what moster I have created for myself?! In all honesty, I wouldn't do it if I didn't want to and although it is time consuming, it is a great way to promote shows and let people know it is NOT boring and tedious, but fun and social.
We truly enjoy the people as much as anything else. I find most mineral people positive and giving, very few are not. And am glad so many people now have a face to go with the names. I fear I might have to carry twice as many cameras in Denver!

Oh, I also wanted to show how it is to put up a display, show it...enjoy the people who come to see it, talk about it, then take it down. It really isn't hard at all and I encourage more people to bring minerals and display them. If we all share our knowledge and show we love minerals enough to bring them with us to educate and entice more people...well, the shows will thrive.

I will be in Rochester to speak and enjoy the good company of other mineral enthusiasts, will also be at the East Coast Gem and Mineral show with 53 cases of our minerals on display. Then on to Denver later this year. I plan to do a show report on all events I attend.

Hi to Gail and all the Forum,

Thanks for everything you posted about Tucson, Gail, of which, I've only had time to view a very small amount--mostly just your end-of-show "wrap-ups". But it due time, I'll get to see it all, with all your pictures. I only returned to Denver late (very late) this Tuesday night, or I guess it was Wednesday morning by then, after a leisurely two-day drive which included some enjoyable "rock rambles" in the mountains of western New Mexico. There's a lot to catch up on, and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of what you said about Tucson. It was great meeting you and Jim, and many others (though I know I didn't make contact with nearly as many folks as you did, Gail). And of course it was all a great show.

Best wishes to all,
Pete

Hi,

To complete Gail's report and enjoy her minerals, you can have at look at the video Justin from The Vug did about Gail's display and her comment about her mineral of the day.

Thanks Cristophe!
I am going to add a number of new photos that I hadn't the time to add when I was sitting up late in Tucson. I took over 4,000 photos over the week and a half.
Nice thing about digital, and a large memory card that you can unload and zero out each few days.
Don't worry, they won't be mundane!
Cheers!

I've finally had a chance to finish scrolling through all of your pictures, Gail, thanks a lot for such a complete photo and otherwise report on Tucson. Great job!

Now I have a question that I never remembered to ask anyone (who knew) at the show. What was the story about the "petrified banana"? (calcite after banana) It was labelled as originating in San Francisco, 1906, and was rumored to have some connection to the earthquake. Can anyone enlighten me as to the story behind this? It's not every day that a banana falls into the proper mineralizing waters, and is recovered...

Cheers to all,
Pete

Some of the time I can't remember people's names, so in the next few postings I may not know how to spell someone's name or even know it...so bear with me, feel free to name names too! I know the people, but not always their names, you know how it is.

HI Linda, always nice to hear from you!
I have transferred all my photos to an external hard drive, so can now do this on my regular home computer and keyboard. Much easier !
So....here are more photos from Tucson, as requested.
