Topaz, schorl, quartz, albite, mica

Group composed by several transparent colorless topaz crystals, one schorl prism with very bright faces, a couple of transparent colorless quartz crystals, and mica, on a matrix of albite. Overall size: 56 mm x 47 mm. Schorl crystal: 37 mm tall. Weight: 107 g.

Chamachhu, Haramosh Mts., Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan.

It's not easy to read Chamachhu. This is Balti language, related to the Tibetan family, and spoken in some areas of the upper Indus valley. Chamachhu is a very small town in the vicinity of Shengus, not far from Stak Nala.

Specimens with this architecture and color combination are hard to be photographed, especially for people like me with little experience and the simple camera I own. This piece is really better in person.

Schorl

A neat grouping of highly lustrous black steep pyramidal tourmaline schorl crystals, without matrix. Very unusual termination for this species. Overall size: 46 mm x 25 mm x 15 mm.

From a recent find in Laila, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. Some people think the exact locality might be Dache/Dassu, in one valley that leads toward the Laila peak base.

This being a very odd habit for schorl, John S. White rightfully likes to call it the "pencil habit" ( https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?p=4424#4424 ).

Reference: "Moore's Compendium of Mineral Discoveries", 2016, vol. 2, page 472, read "Laila, Gilgit/Skardu districts...".

Epidote

Cluster of large epidote dark green crystals measuring overall 124 mm high and 60 mm wide. Weight: 296 g.

Shigar Valley, Skardu District, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. The exact locality might be Alchuri, in the Shigar Valley, but there is no data to confirm that. There are other very alike specimens coming from Tormiq Valley, parallel and nearby to Shigar Valley (Lapis International Pakistan, page 76). As usual, the confusion with the Gilgit-Baltistan localities keeps going.
