Mr. John S. White published an article in the May/June issue of Rocks and Minerals on Polyhedroid Agates. This inspired me to look at the few pieces that I collected a number of years ago and to my surprise was able to find them. Mr. White writes about how they are formed and the other names which one might find in the literature such as pseudo-agate, polyhydrolithe, and polyhedric quartz or quartz polyhedroids or even box quartz. Other names which are used are Paraiba-agate and polygonal quartz.
Mr. White notes, "The most famous and probably the most prolific source for polyhedroids is the Garguelo Farm south-southwest of Cajazeiras, in the Municipe de Cachieura dos Indios, Paraiba, Brazil."
My specimens came with a label Paraiba, Brazil as the location. They are polished slices.

Goethite (FeO(OH) named after the German polymath and poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749–1832), an iron bearing hydroxide mineral of the diaspore group, is found in soil and other low-temperature environments. Goethite has been well known since prehistoric times for its use as a pigment (ochre). Evidence has been found of its use in paint pigment samples taken from the caves of Lascaux in France. It was first described in 1806 for occurrences in the Hollertszug Mine, Dermbach, Herdorf, Siegerland, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. (ref Wikipedia)

That is a nice group of polyhedroids Don. Made all the more interesting by John White's recent article in R&M.

I have a soft spot for Michigan coppers ever since I collected there as a boy many years ago. I love the crystallization on your Ojibway copper - nice piece.
