Thank you for sharing your fine specimens. The specimen from Trepça, Kosovo shows - in my opinion - Dolomite rhombohedrons covered with Calcite and additional Quartz.

Hello Martin,

I think that you are absolutely correct and thank you for writing and letting me know.

I have added Dolomite to the label.

Sincerely yours,

Don

Ähm.., I think there was something mixed up. The Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is not really in Canada!

Martin,

I have no idea how Canada came up but I had submitted it as Yido Silver Mine in China.

PostPosted: Nov 14, 2014 13:27    Post subject: Re: Don Lum Collection

Don,

Since my last login, the pieces I have enjoyed are the chalcopyrite ps galena (IMG_3880.JPG, pg. 30), the fluorite from the Huanggang Mine, Inner Mongolia, China (IMG_3970.JPG, pg. 30) and the Elbaite from the Himalaya Mine, California (IMG_4052.JPG, pg. 31).

Those spessartines from Lavra do Navegadora, Minas Gerais, Brazil (IMG_4161.JPG, pg. 30) are fairly difficult to photograph. It took me several days to manage to get a good photo and post it on Mindat. Good job on your photo!

I really like the blue fluorite and calcite combination from the “Green Tracts”, Bethel Level, Cave-in-Rock District, Hardin Co., Illinois (IMG_4158.JPG, pg. 32) . I have recently been doing some independent research on some of these older fluorspar mines in the district. The “Green Tracts (aka the “Green Mines” or the ”Saline Mines”) is the combined named for 3 mine shafts that were operated by the Ozark-Mahoning Mining Company (North Green Mine, East Green Mine and West Green Mine). It is impossible just by looking at the specimen to which of the three it came from though.
