Hi Michael,

Very nice apatite, as most of your other specimens, all of great quality and aesthetics.

However I really doubt that it comes from Chumar Bakhoor, apatites from there are a bit different and quite characteristic. As the picture title states, yours is most probably from the Shigar Valley, being Chhurka a locality in that valley known for apatite. I suppose the locality change is related to the locality database and may be solved easily (adding Chhurka as a new locality).

Best regards,

Felix Garcia

Hi Felix,

Thanks for pointing out the error. You are absolutely correct as to the Chhurka locality. This error wasn't a result of the database. The error was mine as I copied the locality from a different specimen. It is now corrected.

Michael

Anyone interested in knowing where Chhurka is may want to open this map https://carlesmillan.cat/maps/Pakistan.png

Just a hamlet at the lower area of the Shigar Valley (blue pin), somewhere to the northeast of Skardu. Not hard to find on the map, in the lower right quarter.

This is really the typical apatite from Chumar Bakhoor. Pink to light pink, on a bed of mica, and sometimes accompanied by beryl (or more seldomly by fluorite).

This little group of Betafite crystals is no doubt among the ugliest minerals in my collection. However, it is special to me as I collected at this location many years ago when I was a teenager.
