I had to chuckle over your olmiite. I just attended a mineral show last weekend and picked up a nice, inexpensive olmiite. Your's though is a lot more attractive than mine!

Thanks Jamison. Do you know if yours fluoresces? I have another older olmiite and when I checked, it does not fluoresce like the one in my last post. This makes me wonder what the activator is.

Michael, I tested out my Olmiite with my WTC Fluorescent lamp. The response is strongest under a shortwave, showing a magenta color. The fluorescent response is weaker in midwave and longwave. As per what the activator for the fluorescence is I don't know...

Also love those Romanian specimens! I particularly like the Freibergite.

Thanks Jamison. That's interesting, I suppose the activator is manganese and maybe a certain threshold is required to render it fluorescent. The olmiites on other specimen I have that are not fluorescent are not as gemmy and tan colored, so I'm pretty certain that the chemistry is slightly different.

Michael,

I had to put my sunglasses on to look at your excellent vivid Orpiment. I was afraid it was going to punch my eyeballs out. Congratulations.

Hi to Laura.

Thank you Don. Yes, those Elbrusskiy Mine orpiments can be pretty bright. I have been enjoying your thread, especially the pieces from the Stand-on-your-Head mine. Have to agree with you about Jimmie and Hisami - very nice folks. Say hi to Gwen.
