Beryl crystal has a saturated color.
Excess of vanadium over chromium?
Or just a high concentration of these 2 trace elements?

Several crystals have carbonaceous inclusions, mostly on the edge and at the base of the cluster.
Also many crystals exhibit geometrical patterns in the form of striations on either the c-axis termination or the faces (Combination of growth patterns and contacts).
Presence of limonite.

Hola Señor franjungle
Thank you for your kind comments!
You live in a city which still has an unfair reputation for being violent due to the drug cartels.
But this is now history and Medellín is certainly one of the most innovative cities in South America.
The city of the "eternal green" can only be an attractive place :-)

Hi Gérard.

Thank you for your words in name of the paisas.

Yes, Medellín takes a while that is a city that advances and grows. With four million inhabitants of its metropolitan area it´s already a great city.

It is the only one city of Colombia that tube has. And also there are many cable-ways to neighborhoods that continue raising in the hills.

The people tell me a few amazing histories about 30 years ago. To many zones of the city you could not enter... The drug cartels had this city forcibly taken and the region was a territory of the narco-guerrilla. The life of a policeman you upset value USD 500. Life was hard. Lucky it all happened.

Nowadays many tourists come to the city. Usually they come because the growth of the city, the sun and the paisa party is a magnet for all people, tourists and workers.

Without the ultra-violent mafias, with the new growth, the good weather, the landscapes and the happiness of the “paisa people”, we have the perfect cocktail.

And the great sorrow is the emeralds remained in Boyacá and here only they left the gold us. But in this life is not possible to get everything.

We wait you in the the eternal spring city.

Your fine Fiebre Verde collection is the best ambassador of Colombia. It´s more than excellent.

Hello Franjungle,
Thank you for your kind words and also for your invitation to visit Medellín where I have been only once a couple of years ago.
It's true that I keep promoting Colombia to my friends, not for its gold or emeralds, but rather for its incredible variety of landscapes, climates, and cultures.
Tourists are flocking to Colombia more than ever as it is still considered by many as an off the beaten track country.
I haven't seen "real" tourists around the mining areas yet but several Bogotá-based tour operators are now offering day trips to the Boyacá mines. Sadly, this will only fuel the already flourishing market for glued specimens.

“but rather for its incredible variety of landscapes, climates, and cultures”. I fully agree with you on this.

From the deserts of The Guajira or the Tatacoah, to the Amazon tropical forest that covers several regions of the country. High mountain climates near to Caribbean beaches. Swampy impenetrable jungles like a thick wall in The Chocó or The Stopper of The Darién (in the border with Panama), and arid flat extensions in the sheets of the Orinoquía close to more than five thousand meters snowed permanently mountains. And in the middle the spring of Medellín.

Like the emeralds is especially green. The whole country is always green except five small zones.

Care with the glue.

But please continue with the parade of colombian beauties.

Firmo.

PostPosted: Apr 28, 2017 16:27    Post subject: Re: Collection of Fiebre Verde - Chivor (#621)

From a new find in the Parisian basin, the yet to be known Paris deposit.
Mother nature was not the only force working on this specimen. Was a hard job for me too.
There is subtle cat's eye effect which can be sensed in the upper part of the crystal – have to work out the lighting.
Needless to say that host rock is the infamous Parisian black shale.

PS: There was another good discussion recently on how important is the background in mineral photography.
Indeed, you can work out the background with your favorite plug-in after shooting but no matter how good you are at creating the most appropriate background, it might already be too late.
The first 2 images illustrate the importance of the background color when shooting - Lighting conditions are identical.
But this is luxury as it does not only require various background materials to play with but also... time!
