PostPosted: Sep 11, 2017 08:04    Post subject: Concrete or pumice

This weekend we went to mino (Japan) to visit an old manganese mine. Sadly we could not reach the mine because the (dirt)road was destroyed by heavy rain. But this was also interesting, cause the river next to the road contained a lot of dirt and rocks from the flood. So we found interesting species.

Still there are a few where I can not put a name on.
Also my first picture is maybe strange to ask, cause it looks like pebbels, mixed with concrete, but the strange thing about it, I can see a 1mm spot of gold on it, and some shiny crystals around and inside. Is this concrete, or stones mixed with pumice?

Please if somebody can help me with this and the other stones.

The stone contains 4 smaller round stones, put in a grey pumice-like stone. At first sight it looks like a piece of concrete, but inside I can see a shiny crystal like spots.

the main reason why I doubt about this stone. In the river I found pumice too, But what's very strange to me is that I can see a flake of gold on it. It is not pyrite, (about 0.7 mm, flat, no cubic shape.) I can not do a streak test because of the size.

I'm just a beginner, but I think this is feldspar, a little orange because of iron. but inside I see clear crystals, not 6-side shape. Is this quartz?

This rock contains a lot of iron, but the corner contains also quartz. Also around the quartz is a brown-red powder like substance. Iron or manganese?

same "iron" stone from another angle, hopefully more clear

black rusty color stone, not so heavy, not magnetic. First tought was this was Iron. it has a flat face with shiny black spots, like black paint

I think a piece a feldspar. I'm not so interested in the type of stone, but more why there are microscopic holes inside (see next photo)

this is the close up of the piece of "feldspar". if I look closely, I can see randomly holes, about 0.5 mm big. are these airbubbles, or places where soft material was eroded? Or something else? this can help me to identify other stones too
