Former collection of Geary Murdock, collected in 1984. This is the best of only two matrix specimens I know about and has been in my collection since Oct 1984.

Thought I would add one of my favorites. This crystal is favored because it is doubly terminated, a rarity with topaz. The crystal faces clearly demonstrate that topaz is hemimorphic or hemihedral; that is, it possesses lower symmetry than most orthorhombic crystals, The result is that the forms on each termination are dissimilar, a feature commonly seen in tourmaline. Hemimorhphite is so-named because of this property. The crystal is 5 cm long and is from Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Hi Tony. That is a wonderful topaz. Not clear what James' comment means.
