The mines at Rush Arkansas produced a wonderful array of minerals including this smithsonite pseudomorphing dolomite. 6 x 7.5 cm.

This post reminded me of some lovely micros I have from there, with bow-tie or dumb-bell shaped crystals. These are distorted crystals without sharp external faces (except at a very small scale), but they preserve the overall morphological symmetry of smithsonite.

I realize we have moved on to AR, but I just want to mention that the benitoite that am mizunaka uses as his icon is just breathtaking.

This specimen (stilbite with aegirine) is so delicate, I appreciate it.
