Florida is not fertile territory for mineral collectors, but there some very nice specimens of calcite, vivianite, and wavellite that have come from quarries in Florida. One excellent resource for images of these minerals is photographic archive of the Florida Geological Survey/Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The address for the rocks, minerals, and crystals section of the photographic archive is: https://www.pbase.com/floridageologicalsurvey/rocks_minerals_and_crystals&page=1

It is well worth a look. There are nine pages of photographs, with some superb in situ images of cave calcites.

Thanks for the info James, very useful!

Anyone have any details on the Key Largo locality? It is not on Mindat and I'd love to put up a specimen.

This locality is already existing in FMF, so you can use it if you wish.

A very interesting topic! As a German collector who is interested in U.S. minerals, I mostly know specimens from states such as Arizona, Utah, California, Colorado, New Mexico or Missouri, rather not from Florida. I think it's the same with Germany, foreign collectors with interest in German minerals will rather know stuff from classic mineral regions such as Eifel, Harz, Erzgebirge, Siegerland or Black Forest than from "exotic" areas like Northern Germany ...

Tobi

If you do a search on https://www.tigerminerals.com/ (link normalized by FMF) it will take you to my website showing all the Minerals I have from the United States. Of course a lot of them are already posted on here in the U.S. minerals area.

Thanks for that link, Bob. I browsed your gallery, really like your specimens, especially those from Colorado (Sweet Home rhodo & Eagle Mine pyrite) and your marvellous wulfenites from Arizona. But also others where I didn't even know the localities before (e.g. the nice pyromorphite from North Carolina or the well-crystallized sulphur from Texas that looks like it comes from Sicily).

Thanks! I was able to get the full story of the specimens, they are very rare! Only 20 of good size like in the photos.
