These "Bastnäsites-(Ce)" from Trimouns are in fact Hydroxyl-bastnäsite-(Ce)
See: https://www.minsocam.org/msa/AmMin/TOC/Abstracts/2008_Abstracts/Apr08_Abstracts/Yang_p698_08.pdf (the extended version where is said that the samples used to determinate the species are from Trimouns is available if you are member of Minsocam:

I already changed it in your caption https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/download.php?id=82384

Very nice specimen with intense dark colour! Smoky quartz is one of my most favourite minerals (though my wife doesn't understand how one can love that brown/grey stuff ;-))

new Torbernite in my collection ! From Margabal U mine, Aveyron Department, Central Massif, FRANCE. The greatest crystal : 1,6 cm ! Today, all French uranium mines are closed. This specimen was dug between 1990's and 2000. Perfect architecture for this uraniferous stone

Hi Benj,

I see you are holding a strongly radioactive mineral specimen in your bare hands.
May I advise you to protect your hands against direct contact with these specimens;
There will always be some molecules that will come loose and remain on your hands.
Then they may end up in your body through food contact with your hands.
You don't want that.

I'm just worried.

Also keep these minerals in a closed box as they may release Radon.
Please read some literature about this.

Mathias

The topic of handling radioactive specimens has been covered many times before, but I will agree with MATHIAS.

When showing a specimen and including the owner's hand, the hand should include a covering. Otherwise don't include any uncovered body part in the photo.

When commonsense rules are followed, there should be no problems associated with collecting and handling most all radioactive minerals.

The rules include:
Have each specimen completely labeled, including a cautionary note.
Only occasional handing of the examples and then promptly washing the hands.
Never keep specimens in the bedroom or where food is kept or served.
Never keep specimens where children might play or might handle them.
Keep the specimens in adequate display cases or appropriately boxed up out of sight.

BOB

Hi Benjamin. Nice torbernite. I'd be proud to own it and/or fondle it.

All best wishes,

Ed in Kingman

 Mineral: Galena after Pyromorphite
 Locality:
Huelgoat, Châteaulin, Finistère, Brittany/Bretagne, France
 Dimensions: 3,5 x 2 cm
 Description:
This 18th century sample had a good life : it belonged to the mineralogist Ferdinand Gonnard (1833-1923), who then donated it to the Ecole des Mines (Mines School of Paris). The latter separated from it and had to be transmitted between collectors. The sample landed in England to Ian Bruce, through her company Crystal Classics. It then passed through several French collectors of lead minerals. It was exhibited at the 2019 SMAM exhibition of lead minerals. The only downside: very fragile species because of the pyrite, but it seems to resist! It also has 9 labels (including 4, just for Crystal Classics!), notably the old labels of Gonnard and that of the SMAM exhibition (sorry for my English^^).

Now Benj, that is what I call a real provenance.

Congratulations. Great specimen.

Thank you so much Don Lum ! It was a dream to have these minerals, (very long time of research^^). Bought last week from other French collectors of lead ;-)
