For us to help you, you should first help us. Reading the FMF guidelines for specimen identification, you need to tell us exactly where your example was found or is from. Also you need to do some simple tests, as described in the guidelines, to help identify your find.

Having said that, I could envision your example being obsidian (volcanic glass), if found in an area where obsidian is found (not West Virginia). However your example most likely is man made glass slag. BOB
