|
We have this rock all over new mexico but I've never seen this with the sky blue pockets, some are solid some are pockets of crystals (the bigger ones) I think my search would be over soon if I could remember what type of rock is the host rock. It cuts and polishes very nicely but again I have no idea what it is

I wouldn't think a hardness of 2 would polish very well.
I would have guessed a basaltic porphyry with secondary filling of chalcedony.

This hardness is comparable with jasper or agate of this area

Looks almost identical but as I said in the other reply this is a hardness comparable with jasper or agate of the area also if it helps the bigger pockets have little like dogtoitge calcite crystals that react in shortwave uv

There are combinations possible; these could be agate/chalcedony filling the vesicles, and then coated on their exterior with a thin layer of the blue-green celadonite. Always lots of possibilities, when it comes to minerals! Some of them might contain zeolite minerals, too.
