PostPosted: May 12, 2018 08:43    Post subject: Romanian Bournonite and Tetrahedrite

Hello
I just obtained two Romanian specimens, supposedly from Cavnic.
I suspect they may come from Boldut mine.

the first one is a large boulder of crystalline milky Quartz (itself covering a matrix of massive sphalerite + minor chalcopyrite) covered with metal-gun Bournonite cogwheel twinned crystals (up to 7 mm); the bournonite is admixed with Pyrite in forms of nodules, some of them are weathered.

the second one consists of two main sharp Tetrahedrite crystals (8-10 mm) (plus several smaller ones) resting on Siderite (?), associated with Quartz crystals (up to 2 cm) on a matrix of quartz and pyrite

Can Romanian specialists confirm/infirm?

thanks!
jf

Correct

For sure both looks as from Romania but I would say that the Bournonite is from Baia Sprie and for the Tetrahedrite I believe it could be either Boldut Mine or Roata Mine, so probably "Cavnic mining area" could be more accurate.
