Beautiful specimen! :-)

Appreciate your kind words Pierre!
The word ‘Morralla’ describes the opaque low-grade rough material mainly used for cheap jewelry and handicrafts.
When mining for emeralds, the presence of morralla is sometimes a good indicator of crystallized emeralds in the vicinity.

PS: Should be 'Morralla' and not 'Moralla' as initially written. Thanks for pointing this out Jordi!

Dark tone is due to the presence of carbonaceous inclusions, which is quite common in Muzo.

Hello Firmo
Appreciate your comment... and very well protected ones!
Due to a higher density of inclusions, color is much darker at the base that in the upper part.

PostPosted: May 31, 2018 09:21    Post subject: Re: Collection of Fiebre Verde - Pyrophyllite (#6500)

One would think that no chromium-rich minerals would grow next to emeralds.
This Cr-bearing variety of pyrophyllite comes from San Gregorio, a locality known for producing the most intense green emeralds of the Chivor mining area.
Host rock is black shale.

PostPosted: Jun 03, 2018 09:50    Post subject: Re: Collection of Fiebre Verde - Chivor (#696)

Elongated, translucent double terminated crystal, on a partly oxidized black shale host rock.
The beryl crystal rests on a druse of light bluish-grey scalenohedral calcite - a very uncommon form in Chivor and in the 2 emerald belts at large.
This well-balanced specimen is from a recent find in the Chivor area but the exact locality name is guarded more closely than a state secret (as usual...).
Best bet is that it's from Palo Arañado mine.
