I have had this one in my collection since Oct 1974. It has always been kept in a dark place.

Vesper Peak grossulars are very famous because some of them show cube faces, very rare for any garnet.

John, as a garnet collector, I have a couple of garnets with good cube faces from Vesper Pk. I don't have photos in digital form, but will try to transfer one. I'm new to the Forum and am somewhat short of time at this time of year, so may be sporadic with any responses, but will try to supply a few of the unusual things that are in my collection for view over time. The theme localities idea is great! Can one add occasional pictures at any time? Thanks.

John

Hi All,

It has been awhile since I posted much of anything. Well Hawaii a couple of weeks ago. Anyway I thought I would fill a few mineralogical voids in the Washington forum this evening.

Quartz with very pale amethyst color in some of the terminations. Some of the crystals are included with tiny bits of pyrite.

Found during my formative years of collecting about 1974 on a remote graveled logging road North of the town of Newport Washington in Pend Oreille County on the Washington - Idaho border. This was from an outcrop just off the road. I was there only one time for no more than a couple of hours. I am sure that if I had gone back and spent some real collecting time at the outcrop, I might have come away with much better specimens. As I remember, they were quite easily collected.
