Marie Huizing, the editor of Rocks & Minerals, very kindly agreed to publish the original version of this letter in that journal. And Jordi has generously agreed to allow me to post a similar version here. I am doing this primarily because I want to attract attention to a book that I suspect many collectors do not know exists, a book that is inexpensive and I am very certain they will greatly enjoy and I know there exists a stockpile of these books that has been sitting around far too long.

As the founder of the journal The Mineralogical Record I should point out that Dr. Montgomery was instrumental in the founding of the Record. He personally financed the start of the journal and without that support it is quite possible that it might not exist today. I wish that Dr. Montgomery could be around now so that he could see what The Mineralogical Record has become. He was also supportive of the journal Matrix, published by Jay Lininger, not many miles from my home.

I concur with John S. White. At the suggestion of John, I started reading Arthur Montgomery's "Reminiscences of a Mineralogist" and quickly read it cover to cover. I'll probably read it again! If you like field geology and mineralogy, prospecting and very successful field collecting, mixed with a good dose of science, you will love this book! AND only $20!!
