Really wonderful rhodonite, what a colour! I really liked the one you posted in december but that one seems to be even better. Outstanding colour, wonderful shape and composition together with the matrix and the associated minerals, the black and white add even more beauty to this wonderful specimen!

Congratulations on a really good mineral for your fine collection, Carles :-)

Best regards from Germany

Hi Don!

I'm glad to hear from you.

Yes, I chose it for its aesthetics. I began collecting minerals in my early teens for the chemistry. But now I do it just for their beauty, as an incredible work of art made by Nature.

I'm often pleased to view your excellent specimens here.

With best regards,

Thanks, I learned from experienced collectors and since we know each other for many years, you are one of them :-)
The process of learning, developing and maybe specializing is something that every collector should go through. Good to hear from a really experienced and knowledgeable fellow collector that I did it right. Your suggestions (about aesthetics, choosing and discarding specimens, localities, and mineral photography) were always a help for me on this way and your collection was always an inspiration!

Best regards
Tobi

Very grateful for your kind words once again, honestly I think I do not deserve them. But every collector needs to have tutors. Collecting minerals is not an ability that can be taken for granted. One should learn it. I'm fortunate enough to still have one fellow that with great generosity helps me a lot when I need.

PostPosted: Sep 19, 2021 10:07    Post subject: Collection of Carles Millan: Fluorite from Huanggang

Fluorite - CaF2

Group of two gemmy pink octahedral lustrous fluorite crystals. A floater that is complete all around and in great condition. Good specimens from this find are now (2021) disappearing from the market. I don't know why but I've always had a weakness for the octahedral and tetrahedral habit crystals (pyrite, galena, fluorite, cuprite, native copper, tennantite-tetrahedrite series, magnetite, etc.).

Whole size: 44mm x 28mm. Largest crystal: 28mm tall, 21mm on edge. Mass: 26g.

From Huanggang, Hexigten Banner, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, China.

Video and photo by Dan Weinrich.

Congratulations on this perfect and flawless floater specimen, Carles!

You're right, these fluorites came out in larger amounts and now they disappear, you can be glad to have one. A while ago, I was browsing minerals at a friend's private mineral sale and I held some of these in my hands, very similar to your's in shape and size. But as often, there were too many minerals; an aquamarine on muscovite from Chumar Bakhoor and a chalcopyrite/quartz combination from Cavnic went with me that day and none of the Huanggang fluorites. They're still on my list ;-)

And I know your love for octahedral crystals - so I know how much you love this one :-)

Regards
Tobi

Not new, they're from november 2019 and you already commented on the aqua ( https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?p=69088#69088 ) ;-)
And the day I purchased them I also had several of the pale pink Huanggang fluorites in my hands.

Btw, concerning the fluorites: I like the really red ones more than these pink ones, but they're even harder to get.

Yes, I remember now, almost 2 years ago.

The red fluorites are much more expensive, you know.
