Beautiful Caldbeck Fell mineral, apple green Pyromorphite in amongst a load of other material that I don't know names of. Possible Mimetite, Corkite and Hinsdalite. Please feel free to correct or shout some IDs out

Apologies for quality of the photographs as taken in the field with phone lol

Hinsdalite and corkite are rare and very difficult to identify by visual means alone. Most of the brown/black amorphous stuff up there is various oxides and hydroxides of iron and manganese. If you don't already have a copy, try and get hold of Minerals of the Caldbeck Fells by Cooper and Stanley.

Ah I have found it and ordered it.

Another great book just hit the doormat
Ore Mining in the Lake District
By Alastair Cameron and Liz Withey.

Great content and history of each mine.

A lot of information on the minerals of the Caldbeck Fells and Lake District can be found on the website of the Russell Society. They have digital copies of all their journals which can be freely accessed. Better still, join the society and get out on some field trips.
