This photo I took today at work from approx 3750' from surface. It's a Seashell that was in process of being converted to pyrite. This shot was taken using my Canon A630 at 4x Zoom on new AMscope SM-2TZ at 45x with 144-LED light ring set at 35% the seashell actual size is approx 1mm. Total photo magnification 180x.

A very nice view of this amazing specimen. I like the way the light gives a double reflection that follows the curves of the shell.

Ringlighting gives a nice homogeneous illumination. And the lightness is very good at such a high magnification. Great job!

Are there any minerals being leached off of the shell to form the pyrite?

I can't tell if there are any minerals leaching from the shell that caused the formation of pyrite. I do still have the shell and would be interested to find out without physical application of any chemicals tho.
