Hi!
This is the first time I tell some of my follies in this forum, you may go used to it, often through my mind misguided ideas for my health.

The other day I was in the mines of Rio Tinto, and we took Barytes, are very bright but are covered by a very hard clay there is no way of cleaning.

He could not clean them with brush or with the ultrasonic bath, or having them over two weeks in water, so as I was desperate I took my parents had gone for a walk every morning and put it in the dishwasher (they say hexametaphosphate clean is good for removing clay)

Soon I heard a strange noise, the stones stuck the dishwasher and the whole kitchen was flooded with water! Help!

I had to clean it all running, remove the hose from the machine, clean it and return it to leave it all nice and clean before they come back (I've done, thank goodness!) and barytes have been cleaned!

The problem is that I have yet another three boxes full to clean and how to do it again spoiling sure the dishwasher.

In short, any day my parents throw me out the window (lol)

The best technique for cleaning any mineral will depend on what the mineral is and what you want to remove from it. If it is clay covering your Baryte, it will need to be removed mechanically, as clays are impervious to most chemicals. I would recommend getting a high pressure water gun for this sort of thing. Chinese models can be found for under $100US. Clays will often loosen up after overnight soak in warm water with some detergent, and then can be removed with the gun. If there is iron stain in the clay, it can be loosened with soaking in a sodium dithionite solution. This chemical is hard to get in some countries, but I know I have seen it for sale from some mineral dealers at the Ste. Marie Aux Mines show. It is also the active ingredient in some commercial cleaning products such as "Super Iron-Out."

There are some very good discussions of various mineral cleaning techniques on Mindat.org, and I would recommend reading these. I hope you get the mess cleaned up before your parents come home!

Hydrosulfite? I have at home, I'll try with that, thank you very much for the idea.

You should _really_ consider buying a cheap Chinese water gun. They work well at cleaning many minerals (millerite would not be one of those =} )

Sodium dithionite is not the same thing as sodium hydrosulfite.

Does someone have a picture or a link to those Chinese water guns. The ones normally used around here, for patio or car cleaning, have a pressure in between 90 and 150 bars. I bet millerite would not be the only mineral damaged by one of these.

Cheers.

José Luis.

Is not it the same?
He had always thought it was the same substance!

I have at home is "sodium hydrosulfite (dithionite), then: I could use?

It is the same as sodium dithionite (Na2S2O4). Your label reads Na2O4S2 -- but is the same. Make certain you follow the warnings on the label -- prevent inhaling the powder, etc.
