No trip to South Dakota would be complete without at least one specimen from the Tip Top Mine. Tiny salmon-pink sprays of montgomeryite to 3 mm - overall size of specimen 3.7 x 7.5 cm.

Another addition to the South Dakota section.
Marcasite/pyrite from the Belle Fourche reservoir. The shale unit that holds these interesting marcasite specimens is usually submerged for most of the year. When the water levels are lowered in the Fall, the shale unit is exposed and the marcasite can be collected.

To update South Dakota I'm using this nice image of one of the famous Barytes from Elk Creek. The specimen and the photo are from Gneissware and it was already published in the Bob's rocks thread.

Thanks Bob!

Barite on Calcite - Elk Creek_Dalzell_Meade Co._South Dakota_USA.jpg
 Description:
Baryte on Calcite
Elk Creek, Dalzell, Meade Co., South Dakota, USA
84 x 78 x 51 mm
A gorgeous, lustrous, gemmy, transparent, deep-amber-colored orthorhombic Baryte crystal measuring 24 mm in length is set perfectly upon a matrix covered by pretty yellow crystallized Calcite to 14 mm. The Baryte has a classic, razor sharp, chisel termination. The piece is perfectly proportioned and sits by itself for display. No damage.
