I finished this one yesterday. I based it on a up-close shot of a 1 cm creedite crystal in a cluster of smaller ones. It stood out because of its size, color, and many crystal faces

Here is another 4x5" painting in acrylic. It is based on a cabinet sized calcite from China. Jordi had suggested it was from Daye mining area, Daye County, Huangshi, Hubei, China. I have seen two other smaller specimens that look the same labeled as "Leiping, Hunan, China" and "Hunan, China." Whatever its exact origin, I love the way this one turned out. It is based on a 2x2cm crystal group. Since I just snipped the photo to isolate the group, I had to improvise the cleavage and limonite at the base from looking at the underside of the larger specimen.

No matter what colour comes next - you are a really talented painter, congratulations! Some time ago we had a discussion here on FMF about painting/drawing skills because i used to make pencil drawings (surrealism, portraits of people and dogs), but i never dared to draw minerals. Now that i've seen your paintings, i think i should leave this to you :-) Great!!!

Well, thanks for that offer, Jordi, but we are a mineral community, and my drawings are not related to minerals, i don't think they really belong to this forum, or what do you mean? And wasn't the new thread created for MINERAL art? ;-) But if somebody is interested, i won't refuse to show some of my drawings.

I must confess that i don't. Actually i only made ONE single mineral drawing about ten years ago as a birthday gift for my uncle, so i don't have it anymore for scanning and publishing it. All my other work was mostly surrealism and some portraits.

But no problem: When i see Turbo's (and the other's) work here, i know that our FMF community doesn't run out of talented artists :-)

Nevertheless i promised myself: If i should find time and mood for drawing again, it will definitively a specimen from my collection that will act as a model to me ;-)

I finished this one today. I don't consider this one to be a fantasy specimen because it still faithfully depicts celestite. However, the actual specimen (regretfully) does not exist. I simply took two crystals from two different Madagascar celestite specimens I have and brought them together for a nice aesthetic representation. I was wary of embarking on this one because it involved the most manipulation, but decided to go for it since it did not violate my philosophy against creating new species, colors, or unnatural mineral combinations. Enjoy.

Well here is number six. Probably the last one I can do before school starts again. I went looking through my older photos and liked my danburite shot so much I decided to paint it. The original crystal is 4.5cm long. From Charcas, San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Enjoy.

Hopefully the color comes up right. It's hard to scan these well. I've wanted to paint an apatite for a long time. This little guy was just over 1cm long.
