The curved Brandberg quartz is not only wonderful but mysterious. The amethyst in the center appears to continue a straight course even as the crystal takes a turn. Very fascinating.

Thank you John! This crystal does not come from the usual place (Tafelkop/Goboboseb), but from another locality not too far away. Bent quartz are not common from the Brandberg area.

Hi Michael. I nearly missed your comment on the previous page. Thank you. I feel that someone should do a step by step article, on the forum, on mineral photography for beginners. I find the existing works either too difficult or not informative enough. I have learnt the hard way (still need to learn a lot about lighting for small specimens). His excellency, Mr. Ploum, has taught me quite a bit. I am very grateful.
Regards.

Today I want to share another fascinating Mount Malosa specimen; a smoky quartz crystal with a number of inclusions. The yellow and black needles seem to be the same thing, just with another coating. I am starting to wonder whether the needles are not perhaps minute Aegerine crystals coated with some yellow mineral (perhaps the same type as the small yellow crystals that can be seen in some of the pictures). As to the minerals involved, I will appreciate some comments from the clever guys.

Pierre,

I'm not one of the clever guys! But look at this picture of a Mount Malosa zircon posted at Mindat and compare the habit, size and color with your specimen's photos.

Pierre,

These are striking images of the smoky quartz with inclusions. Really neat specimens.

Thank you Don and Greg (there is lots of room for improvement with my photos).
Carles, thank you for the Zircon link. I admit to confusion over these included minerals but am intrigued anyway. :-)

Great specimen and lovely photos. I think zircon is a good thought. Here's a specimen with gemmy zircon crystals to 7mm on a 6 cm quartz crystal group from Mount Malosa.

Hi Ru. Thank you for the compliment and the photo. I used a Raynox DCR250 conversion lens. Obviously there is room for improvement, but then, the surface of the crystal is not lens clear.

Hi Mike and Juan. Thank you for your comments. Riana and myself purchased these 2 from an elderly man in a small shanty town called Namdeb (about 3 km from Neu Swaben mine, and about 15 from Karibib). The colour of the heads are not great, but the shapes are.
