PostPosted: Oct 13, 2012 10:48    Post subject: Munich Show (Mineralientage) 2012

Barcelona 10/13/2012

Here is the regular thread for Munich Show - Mineralientage 2012. This time I start it using the information published before in "New book:"Luminescence in Mineral Kingdom" and "Tantara (RDC) pseudomorphs from "2011": after calcite?"

For now I can say not too much with respect to novelties. As in the past shows, many recycled collections and many Huanggang Mine (without, apparently, some main novelty) Anyway is sure that, as always, during the fair we will discover new finds, but so far I have not heard any bell rings ;-)

So for now, enjoy the new book of Guido Mazzoleni that will be presented in Munich and enjoy the knowledge that among the pieces of the 2012 exhibit "Africa" there will be some specimens so interesting as the pieces mentioned by Valere Berlage.

As every year we would love to have as many contributions as possible to this thread. I said it before but, again: more contributions = more diversity!

As always, all information about the Fair could be found in: "" Mineralientage München "

More to come...

Hi to everybody!
Pay attention to mortadella and cheese, Jordi! The Bolognese diet is not thinning like the Mediterranean one! Hahahahaha!!! Of course I was joking, but you should try the Lasagne, typical from Bologna! See you in Munich, I should come there!
Greetings from Italy by Riccardo.

Nice to see that they are doing a separate theme book, and in English as well this year. Looking forward to the show and exhibits.

About Munich, expect one of the biggest main exhibit of all times, I have seen a very few of the several hundred of mineral specimens that have been selected from museums and private collections! Many have never been shown to the public before (that will be a specificity of this year!), and some of these are beyond imagination, be ready to be under a state of shock! Some museum curators have been working hard, looking after the best hidden specimens, I can't wait!

By the way, some 2012 novelties are to be expected...

About Bologna show, I attended it for the first time this spring, a great place to hunt for Italian classics, Bologna old town is an architectural treasure, I was blown away! The food great!

Hi Everyone,

Just a news flash... Alex Schauss and I are coordinating an invited exhibit on thumbnails to the Munich Show, entitled “African Thumbnail Treasures.” Nearly 200 specimens will fill four cases, and each case has a different theme: Classics, Tsumeb, Esoteric (Rarities & Oddities) and Gemstones.

Contributions will come from top collectors around the world including Carl Acosta, Ian Bruce, Bruce Cairncross, Matteo Chinellato, Ralph Clark, Bill Larson, Rob Lavinsky, Kelly Nash, Rich Olsen, Werner Radl, John Schneider, Jon Sigerman, Vasco Trancoso, Daniel Trinchillo, Stretch and Lynn Young, and James Zigras.

Hope everyone enjoys seeing it all.

Cheers,

Jim

Hi Jordi,

I will post photos of the exhibit, yes! My goal is to show that "thumbnail" specimens can hold their own with larger size specimens.

Thanks!

Ok, I'll post some teasers... I don't have exact measurements, but these are all "thumbnail" size (fit within a 1-inch cube). Enjoy!

One more teaser for those who hesitate to come to Munich!
Africa is big, and Congo will be well honored with several worldclass specimens, beyond imagination (in the main exhibits with other classics and rarities): carrollites, cobaltocalcites, an exceptionnal buttgenbackite...
The most spectacular "2011" Tantara pseudomorph (as far as I know) has been selected to be there! Copyrighted J Scovil picture
The specimen illustrated in JV reports last year will be back there too, in my collector's case dedicated only to Tantara, it is very elegant for one of these!
I will be very happy to share talks about these, kept secret for a long time)
See you there
Valère
