PostPosted: Nov 10, 2012 17:15    Post subject: Pete Richards and Pete Modreski: New Site Admins for FMF

As some of you have been able to see in recent days, Pete Modreski and Pete Richards have been given new responsibilities: Site Admins for FMF.

On behalf of other site admins and moderators, I would like to express my gratitude to these FMF veterans for agreeing to become Site Admins of this great and complex Forum that we know as FMF. They accepted, even while knowing the effort that is required to maintain the quality level that we are used to in FMF.

Pete Modreski, who joined FMF in 2007, has been a geochemist with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) since 1979. He is presently part of the USGS Central Region, Office of Communications team responsible for public information and community outreach. His research interests have included mineralogy, gemstones, Rocky Mountain geology, ore deposits, and igneous petrology; his areas of past field and laboratory study include Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Arizona, Hawaii, and Poland. He is the USGS geologic resource specialist for abrasives, gemstones, quartz, beryllium, cesium, and rubidium. He was a coauthor of Minerals of Colorado (1997) and is a research associate with the Earth Sciences Department, Denver Museum of Nature and Science. His related interests include hiking and camping, caves, volcanology, astronomy, photography, nature, and the environment.

Pete Richards is Senior Research Scientist in the National Center for Water Quality Research at Heidelberg University (Ohio, USA) where he has conducted extensive research on water quality and has a great number of publications. Having joined FMF in 2008, Pete Richards is a mineral enthusiast with a deep knowledge of mineralogy and crystallography. His main interests are crystallographical (morphology, twinning, epitaxy) and the mineralogy of Mount Saint-Hilarie in Quebec, Canada. Also he has great knowledge about computer and software programming and, among other things, he has developed crystal-drawing software called SHAPE.

Both Petes are consulting editors with the prestigious magazine Rocks & Minerals and yet regular visitors to FMF, taking an active part in the threads and always with excellent contributions.

In a few days we will teach them their new "super powers" so they will shortly be at the same level that the other Site Admins. Welcome to this little Site Admins and Moderators group, responsible for making all of this work properly.

We are very pleased with your decision.

Adding the two Petes as Site Administrators is a great addition to FMF. Both of these very wise gentlemen have been important contributors to many of the threads over the last few years and we are all fortunate to have their imput. Heartiest greetings to our new Site Admins!
