PostPosted: Apr 06, 2020 01:54    Post subject: Collection of Volkmar Stingl

Hello all, as now is time enough I decided to start to show my collection to all of you. I am not a good photographer, so please excuse if some pictures will not be of good quality. I will add pics irregularly from time to time.

I started collecting decades ago in my childhood. After beginning my geology/mineralogy studies at the University of Innsbruck, Austria, I lost interest for some years. My restart was triggered by my sons, one of them is still an avid collector, too. My collection comprises pieces that I find myself, buy or swap.

My work lead me for 7 years to China, therefore I have many specimens from there, the self-collected of course not of museum quality. Connections to a friend who is dealer gave the opportunity to buy good additional pieces for little money. From my different working places in Europe I also brought a lot of minerals and fossils. But I enjoy most collecting in my home country, if possible together with my son.

I hope you enjoy my pictures!

Volkmar, Nice specimens, especially since they were self-collected.

I do have one minor quibble tho; in your last picture, I prefer to call the pictured quartz "druzy quartz". While both rock crystal and druzy quartz are clear colorless quartz, the pictured example shows smallish closely spaced crystal tips; I reserve the term "rock crystal" for larger more robust and dominant perfectly clear quartz crystals. Wonderful, Volkmar. For most collectors it's a dream to self-collect such mineral specimens!

Thank you, Tobi! For me it was a dream, too! After the first 3 years with only rare finds in Guangdong, and one year in Hebei without any find, my last 3 years in Fujian were exceptional. Especially, we had to supervise 60 km tunnels straight through the mountains with an interesting geology and a lot of mineralization. Additionally, some mines were not too far away (like Huitan, Nanshanxia, Yongping). My best time for work AND collect in China!

Please, could an admin change the location of the fluorite from Hongling? I do not know how it happened, but I did not write this text. It is NOT from the Baimashan tunnel (construction site)!
The correct location is: Roadcut near Hongling, Wuyishan Co., Nanping Prefecture, Fujian Province, China.

Thank you in advance!
