A nice cuprite. I guess it's transparent deep red with well defined crystals, isn't it?

Hello Carles,

The Cuprite was acquired from Jordi at Tucson last year. It has an excellent deep red color but the luster prevents the color from coming out on the photograph and the matrix is too thick to allow light to be transmitted from the back. Yes, the crystals are very well defined and transparent. My photography is too poor to do proper justice to this Cuprite. I hesitated to post it because I consider the photograph of inferior quality but if I were to use this as the criterion I would never post again.

I am happy to hear from you.

Regards,

Carles,

I agonize over every photo I take and post but realize that I am not Jeff, Joe, Tom or Joaquim. I do not have Photoshop. One of the other FMF'ers has made suggestions by PM about color balance and I think my later posts have reflected that aspect. I will not mention his name as I think he would be embarrassed if I did but he has been very Gneiss.

Don

If you send me the original photo (full size) I could try to improve it for you. I did it thousands of times (but not always successfully). Just post me a PM.

Very nice German fluorite classic, Don, really aesthetic specimen :-)
By the way, for those who are interested but don't speak German: Bergmännisch Glück means miner's luck :-)

Thanks for your comment, Tobi. From what I understand, it is an historic mine dating back to the 1700's which has had some recent collecting activity.

I don't have any reliable source for that certain locality, but the first mining activities (for silver) around Frohnau started in the late 15th century. And yes, there were some beautiful new fluorite finds during our century (a very good one in 2008), I think the most recent ones were in 2014.

Here's a picture of a fluorite specimen with colour-zoning from that locality from my collection:
