PostPosted: Jul 27, 2013 17:05    Post subject: Rock and Mineral clubs or shops in China?

I have the opportunity to travel to Bejing and Shanghai in October with my husband on a business trip. We will only be in each city a few days. During the day while he is working, I will have free time to explore on my own.

Does any one know of rock and mineral clubs or shops in either city. I would love to bring home a few specimens from China. I am not looking for costly, museum-quality pieces but something more moderately price that is representative of the areas.

I could possibly bring self-collected specimens from San Diego County, California, USA tourmaline mines for trade if I could contact a collector in these cities.

I regret not posting a similar question two years ago when I went along with him to London and Barcelona. I did spend a short time looking thru rocks along the bank of the Thames River and came home with some flint nodules, a piece of petrified wood and several fossils.

You could contact Dr. Guanghua Liu of aaamineral.com His email starts with ghliu. He has written several books on the minerals of China and is a veryfriendly guy. He is also well connected with the Chinese mineral clubs.

Arkenstone now has a gallery in Shanghai...others are based in Guilin and Changsha

There is a club in Hong Kong, should you head that way. And there are a few stores (with links from the club's web site)

I cannot give an opinion on any of the stores as I am yet to visit them
