PostPosted: Feb 15, 2014 08:37    Post subject: Tucson Show 2014 - The Housekeepers

Tucson 2014/02/15

In this Mega-Babylon of beauty, money, deals and egos, the housekeepers from the Hotels do every day her task and many times with not so good conditions. Thanks to they all. They are an important part of this gigantic machine that is the Tucson Mineral & Gem Show. A toast for Teresa and for the many others keepers that help us to have a easier stay in Tucson.

Don't forget their gratifications, they need it!

Jordi is with our personal assistant, Elaine. She worked at the Perot Museum where I volunteer, and I hired her to be our helper. She is wonderful, and keeps our minerals catalogued with Jim, photographs them, organizes our travel, helps with parties, etc.
She fit right into this crowd!
Great photo of Elaine and Jordi. PS...she just got married a few months ago!

Jordi, your comments and photos are so sweet!!!!!

Just a quick note that the fellow who passed out, feinted, was simply dehydrated. He is fine and frisky again! He hates that he missed the party!

PostPosted: Feb 21, 2014 15:01    Post subject: Tucson Show 2014 - Milpillas and the Valenzuela's Mystery

Barcelona 02/21/2014

Milpillas Mine, despite the few years that will be in operation, is already one of the main world's classic localities for minerals as well as the best known location for some very important species such Azurite and Brochantite and even for some other rare, as the Vésignéite.

So this year has drawn attention the fact that who was one of the principal suppliers of specimens from this mine, the Valenzuelas family, instead of bringing his usual cohort of splendid specimens has not brought any specimen and instead has offered Copper, yes, but just polished samples. Decorative, but not for collectors...

All kinds of rumors were heard about it, but according to the Valenzuelas, all that happens is that they prefer to give some rest to the market for not overwhelming it with too many Azurites, and come back next year with even more force. We'll see...

Returning to the Main Show, here you have a short selection of my favorite specimens of this year among the high number of great specimens in the different show cases. Add to these many specimens of the winner of the Lidstrom award 2014, the Gail & Jim Spann's show case whose images I will publish in my next post.

Here them are, and I still have on mind some more great rocks from that show case, like a Veszelyite from Montana, a Covellite from Summitville, Colorado, a Manganite from Ilfeld, a Rhodochrosite from Sweet Home Mine, a very old classic Millerite from Antwerp, New York, a really serious violet Fluorapatite on matrix from Panasqueira Mine...

As I will not have chance = non time to publish anything more until middle of March, this will be my last post until then, when I will add some thoughts about this edition of Tucson 2014 and few more images.

That is a great brochantite and the best at the show but Millpillas produced MUCH better. There was one in particular that sold for a fortune but of ALL the specimens from Milpillas, INCLUDING Azurite, it was the best mineral to ever come from the mine, in my opinion. This doesnt mean that this one isnt great because it is, its just that you said THE brochantite and when I hear that phrase I think of the GREAT one...those who have seen it know the one I mean.

Hi John.

Hey, Rock showed me your geode with the Rhodochrosite in it. Do you have a good photo of the geode that you can post for the benefit of all of us FMF'ers??

That would be a wonderful thing for all of us to see. As you state in your story about the piece, we've all seen thousands of the geodes, but never another with rhodochrosite therein.

Thanks in advance.

PostPosted: Feb 28, 2014 22:57    Post subject: HUGE kunzite in Tucson

In case you missed it, here's some photos of one of the largest gem kunzite ever found. it was in Dilermando Melo's room at the HTCC.

young Dilo is a budding guitarist but I don't think he'll make it with this "guitar".
