Hi Carles
That Galena is a nice one. I am also looking for something like this for quite a while. I like this sharp isolated style.

PostPosted: Jul 22, 2009 06:00    Post subject: Re: Collection of Carles Millan

This morning I glanced at the mindat gallery and saw at first just the upper two thirds of the above picture, and the `Scheelite...' heading and locality but not yet the submitter's byline, and I immediately thought - `Gosh, this sure looks like a Carles Millan piece. It's just this kind of style that would appeal to his good taste - it has variety and balance...'

Then I scrolled a little further down and saw that I was right :)

Many thanks, and please do keep them coming - a journey around the world in a specimen a day!

To Gerhard Niklasch:

Hi!

Many thanks to you for your kind comments. A piece a day would be okay. Unfortunately there are much more days ahead than specimens left in my collection. In fact, I'm already running out of them, and worst of all, my pocket is getting emptier as time passes by. We all must be very grateful to the digital photography, that allows us to shot until we get tired, for free!

Please, keep posting you too. I guess you must have a lot more pieces to publish.

Sincerely,

Tourmaline (schorl)

Single crystal showing a nonagonal prismatic habit, shot in three different positions. Overall size: 71 mm x 51 mm. Weight: 256 g. Purchased in 1975 from Jaume Serrate.

Yinnietharra pegmatite, Yinnietharra Station, Pilbara Region, Western Australia, Australia.

Please note that that locality is not the same as the classical and very known where the dravites came from (which are not a pegmatite and were from Soklich Open Cut, in the Yinnietharra area as well). For more info you can go to https://www.mindat.org/loc-7612.html

From "Newsletter of the Friends of the E. de C. Clarke Earth Science Museum: September 2006.", page 13: Yinnietharra pegmatites: Many of the pegmatites in this area simply contain quartz, plagioclase, microcline, muscovite and schorl (black tourmaline), as shown on the left. However, the area contains some major beryl pegmatites which have been mined for beryl, and others with interesting and unusual minerals.

Galena - PbS, calcite - CaCO3, chalcopyrite - CuFeS2

Cubic {100} galena crystal showing some octahedral faces {111}, with calcite and minor chalcopyrite. Note an octahedron with rough faces just at the bottom tip of the piece in the photo 2451M-galena.jpg, that may talk about the history of the specimen. Overall size: 51 mm x 35 mm. Galena crystal edge: 27 mm. Mass (weight): 155 g.

Sweetwater Mine, Ellington, Viburnum Trend District, Reynolds Co., Missouri, USA.

>once again, Mr. Millan, I didn't think you could post better specimens than the ones before but here you have done it again....thanks you for gracing us with your wonderful collection
