Andradite, barite, quartz

Dark green to greenish-black rhombic dodecahedral {110} andradite crystals with Baryte and quartz. Overall size: 76 mm x 70 mm x 56 mm. Longest andradite crystal edge: 24.5 mm. Calculated crystal size (assuming it's regular): 57 mm high. Weight: 401 g.

These are very large crystals for the andradite from this locality (for the time being). The small lighter green crystals that can be seen at the bottom of the specimen's front view might be a second generation of andradite with a slightly different chemical composition.

Huanggang Mine (Huanggangliang Mine), Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Co.), Ulanhad League (Chifeng Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China.

Carles, i can only repeat what i told you yet via email: An absolutely beautiful garnet specimen!

1.) the contrast between the dark andradites and the green and white parts of the matrix,
2.) the intergrowing of the andradites,
3.) the pattern on the crystal faces.

Splendid specimen!

Powellite, scolecite

Yellowish-honey color tetragonal dipyramidal powellite crystal showing striated faces, associated with needle-like colorless scolecite crystals. Overall size: 108 mm x 75 mm. Powellite crystal longest edge: 35 mm. Estimated crystal height: about 64 mm. Weight: 272 g. According to the supplier it comes from Yeola, near Nasik (which is a locality not currently recognized by Mindat for this species). Some scolecite needles are damaged.

Yeola, Nasik District, Maharashtra, India.

Another specimen of powellite from the same area can be seen at http://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?p=19741#19741

Bob, I'm very sorry but I fear a mineral specimen cannot be sent by email as an attachment, even for Christmas :-((

Copper

Cluster of eight crystals of copper pseudomorph of aragonite. Some experts in Bolivian minerals believe that it is actually copper after calcite after aragonite. Overall size: 54 mm x 49 mm x 26 mm. Major crystal: 16 mm tall, 22 mm wide. Weight: 64 g. From a recent find. It's very uncommon the occurrence of these specimens with eight crystals this size intergrown in a single piece.

Carles, I continue to be amazed at the uniform high quality of the pieces from your collection that you have shared with us via your fine photos. Each piece is a model of esthetics and it is clear that you have highly refined taste in specimen selection. We can all learn a lot from what you have shown us. Many thanks. Your contributions are ones that I make a special effort to view.

Mr. White:

Once again I feel really honored by your words that I don't deserve. My collection is actually rather humble but is enhanced by the decent pictures I can obtain with great effort and after spending a big chunk of my leasure time, so I'm very happy you appreciate them.

Thanks a lot!
