Hi. Does anyone know where it is possible to mine a little olivine on Tenerife island?
One of my Russian friends (non English speaking as usual))) is going there and looking for this information. And not only olivine, maybe other mineral localities ?
Thanks in advance.
P.S. Also, we will be glad to help everybody regarding mineralogy in Russia, especially in the Ural region.

Hi Acc!
Mining in the Canarian should be forbidden or at least strictly limited. However, olivine as well as hornblende and other minerals of volcanic origin are not so difficult to find and can be picked up without using any tools. But you have to keep in mind that the Canarian Island are a national park according to the Spanish laws. Greetings from Italy by Riccardo.

Well, we are no stranger to that, as all Russia is a big national park. Simple mining is also prohibited here, in accordance with our "wonderfull" legislation. That's why Russian specimens are quite rare.

Thanks Josele. Sometimes mindat localities are not timely. It would be good if somebody could give real localities for this moment.

Minerales de las Islas Canarias is in Spanish language but you can use the Google Translator located at the top left of every page to translate it. Is a lot of info there and relatively timely...

You can also use this link to see some images of minerals from Tenerife in the Spanish FMF Gallery

Take a look at the web page of Volker Betz. He has spent quite some time studying the zeolites of the Canary Islands, and furthermore he is a very proficient photographer.

Enjoy it.

Thank you, Jordi. I'll forward this link to my friend. Not sure that they will understand each other, but who knows.
