Hi Nurbo,

I might be able to help with one or two things.

Refering to the 'Strange radial Azurite on matrix' from Bowland ( https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?p=6306#6306 )... the azurite appears to be infilling crinoidal stem sections in dark mudstone/limestone common in the old quarry/open cuts at this location.

Also, as it appears in the picture, the Over Kellet baryte specimen ( https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?p=5292#5292 ) appears to be flattened white calcite rhombs - i presumed you've fizzed it to check for carbonates? I would be interested to know if it is indeed Kellett white baryte.

Baryte appears to be relatively uncommon in the Morecambe Bay area but, as at the Heysham Anticline you pictured, it can sometimes be seen in small veins within the local sandstones as orangey/pink to cream coloured and massive.

Very nice ammonoid/goniatite and nautiloid specimens from Caton Moor too! The large sliced fossil appears to be a horizontal section of a nautiloid. Those Namurian formations do hold the occasional larger fossil - including some nice but rare Tylonautilus nodiferous. I'll try to post a pic for you when, or if, i can find them!

Greetings from North Lancashire.
Cheers.
Phil

Hello Phillip,

Re the Baryte you are completely correct, it is calcite I found another piece and put acid on it and it fizzed, I judged it to be Baryte because it looks like it, I never really bother too much about making id's 100 % as you can see from my collection thread, Ive got loads wrong.

It is surprising how closely these resemble Baryte though ,I have a Moroccan piece of Vanadinite on Baryte on which the Baryte looks just the same, that is until someone points out that they are not the same. Im not sure how that works, you look at something and think " Yes that looks just the same as XXX" then someone tells you its different and you look again and think "Yes they are, now you point it out its obviously different".

Thanks for your tip on the Azurite infilled Crinoid stems.

Good to see another Lancastrian on here.

Another mistake Ive made is I showed a crystal earlier in the thread that I said I though was Goshenite, I meant to say Topaz. Im not totally sure how I managed to get these words mixed up, I must be getting old.

.

Hi Nurbo,

I already corrected in your captions: Goshenite -> Topaz, and Baryte Over Kellet -> Calcite Over Kellet.

Jordi

Thanks Jordi,
re the Goshenite/Topaz error I think there may be a little confusion here, I meant the "I was sold this as Phenakite but I think its Goshenite" crystal, pictured immediately below, its termination seems wrong to be Phenakite and looks like a Topaz that i have , though the others may be Topaz too, I bought the ones you changed from Siggi Ellenberger. Im happy whichever way because all of them are lovely and clear.specimens.

Some more of my collection follow the Phenakite, Goshenite, Topaz mystery crystal..

Nice Wulfenite. The matrix is Baryte? the photo's color is realistic or in fact it is more orange? this color is quite unusual for Mibladen...

Thanks Jordi, in this case the photo's are surprisingly accurate regarding the colour, I held the specimen next to the photo and its hard to tell the difference. The matrix is indeed Baryte Im not sure what the sandy stuff is though, it goes blue even when lightly scratched, Ive added a photo showing this.

p.s.
The photo where the Wulfenites look slightly more red was taken on a cloudy day, the very orange ones on a sunny day the colour seems to lighten a little depending on how bright the light source is.

Them are very different of others Wulfenites from Mibladen as well as its matrix. In fact in Ste. Marie I don't saw nothing like this.

I heard something about unusual Wulfenites from Morocco, maybe this one could be one of them...

I'll email the guy I got them from and see if he knows the exact origin of these Wulfenites. It may be that Mibladen is as close as it will get but its worth a try.

I just got mail from the supplier of the Wulfenites, I explained about the unusual nature of the piece's and of the rumoured "Unusual" find and he said these are indeed from that find. He got them in stock in November 2008 and he said they were from "The last find", he couldnt be any more specific about the locality than Mibladen Midelt though.
