I too like the idea of showing one's 10 favorites. Perhaps more of us should do this at the end of all major shows...

John White suggested that we start posting the top ten specimens that we saw (and photographed) at this year's Tucson Show. So, I went through my photos and found these that I would say are the most impressive to me.

I admit to having an attraction to lead based minerals so there's quite a few of these and I've tried to avoid gem minerals as there are SO many great ones of these that there would be no room for others.

So, here goes - I'll post two at a time..

The first is one of the most impressive azurite I have ever seen - and yes, that includes Milpillas! It is from the Zambia and was in Richard LeSuer"s room at the HTCC. It was not for sale. The unique crystal form and the contrast between the electric blue azurite and the brown limonite is excellent.

The second is what I think may very well be the best mimetite ever - even from Tsumeb. It was in Marcus Budil's room at the Westward Look and is from Ping Tuo Ling, China. It was sold (Label price was $175K).

8 more to come.

The third is a wonderful Legrandite that was in Wayne Thompson's room at the Westward Look. A wonderful matrix piece and like nothing I've seen previously.

And - it's fitting to recognize Benny Fenn here who passed away late last year. He brought us sooooo many wonderful Mexican minerals including most of the Legrandites, the San Pedro Corrolitos Mimetites and Lilianna Mine scepters. RIP Benny!

The fourth is the Anglesite that won the Lidstrom Trophy and was on display at the TGMS Show at the Convention Center. A wonderful piece.

More to come.

The fifth one is a little Rowley Mine Wulfenite with red Mimetite that was collected within a month of the show by Keith Wentz, Danni Sotomyor, Don "Boom Boom" McCoy, Ed Davis and Ben Vanderklooster. There were a number of larger pieces but this one really stood out to me. The larger ones were just too "busy" and the typical Rowley Mine contrast between the orange wulfenite and yellow mimetite just isn't there.

The sixth one is a Tiger, AZ mine wulfenite that is covering a "bridge" of matrix. It was in the Kristalle room at Westward Look for $4500 and was sold before the end of the TGMS show.

More to come,

My seventh favorite was an aquamarine protruding out of a smokey quartz point that was on display at the TGMS show. It's gemmy and nice blue and from Idaho!! It seems it must be repaired but even so, it's a very attractive specimen.

The eighth is a vug of crocoite on botryoidal gibbsite that was obtained (by me!!) from Adam Wright of Adelaide Mine fame. This is the second year he had these available but again only a few. The crocoites are small but the association is excellent.

Two more to go.

And finally my last two favorites.

The ninth is a Bunker Hill pyromorphite on display in Marcus Budil's special exhibit. Incredibly lustrous and how can such a large, heavy crystal stay on matrix?? It's a real trophy.

And finally, one special specimen kinda busts out from all the others - it's from the breast cancer display coordinated by Gail Spann and with a special dedication. See photo. A VERY special case. Many thanks to Gail.
