PostPosted: Feb 21, 2017 08:15    Post subject: Tourmaline identification

Good day!

Please help me identify what type of Tourmaline gemstones the following are. The reason for wanting to know is that I want to have them appraised, however it is expensive, and if they are of seemingly minimal value, i'd like to know in advance if it's worth it or not.
From what i've researched, I see the prices could vary drastically.
(All of these stones are from around Africa)

Thanks in advance

Bianke

Sorry we cannot help - we collect minerals, not cut stones.

Hi, Bianke.

We understand your desire to know what your samples are, but it is too difficult to determine this from photos, and frankly...it is not a "for sure" way to find out: many of us might make an educated guess, but a guess it is. If you have a rock shop nearby, or a lapidary club, we would suggest you go there to ask.
Many of us are collectors of fine minerals - not all, but a good deal are. Your rocks are not our expertise, as James has said.. We commend you, however, on your interest in learning. Join a local rock and mineral club; it will be a good start to answering your questions.
In case for some reason you can't join a club then you can also try this other web page: https://www.reddit.com/r/whatsthisrock

Furthermore, FMF is a non-commercial forum, so questions about price or value are not allowed.
