PostPosted: Mar 24, 2017 00:37    Post subject: Strange "egg"

I know you guys dont typically like any polished specimens but I think this one is a little different. Just wondering if anyone has seen something similar to this. I pretty sure that is man shaped and polished but its not even close to being a symmetrical egg. And its not perfectly smooth either, rather 100s of flat spots shaping it.
Its soft. Gypsum soft. Although it looks fragile the outer skin is very well attached, the cracks and veins are not prone to chipping off. Ive had them for many, many years and not one tiny piece has ever come loose in fact they are very solid. The skin reflects light like crazy, very chatoyant. Why is there that outer skin? If I remember correctly it was sold to me as a "rattlesnake egg" but its been a long while. Seller had four or five I bought them all for a few bucks. I sold one years ago on ebay and I kept the rest for myself. Any better descriptions/orgins/makeup of this "rattlesnake egg"?
