PostPosted: Apr 09, 2017 02:00    Post subject: Geodes

Hi, my name Danny. I bought some geodes on the internet, so I don't really know where they came from after opening them. I searched on Internet and they seem to be Quartz, but I am not sure since I know nothing about that. Maybe someone can help me.

Hi Danny,

they are not easy to determine only by photos. The first one could be a celestite (a strontium sulfate) from Madagascar, but not sure. Please read this carefully in order to get a better support here: http://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?p=19487#19487

Tobi is right, please check out the protocols for asking for help in identification.

More so than for minerals per se, Identifying geode localities requires pictures of the outside "rind" too. Many are distinctive

Hi Asgardird, I agree with the other's advise to you.

As to your geodes, they look to me like all quartz and microcrystalline quartz (chalcedony), but are difficult to evaluate as your pix are not so good. I do not see any celestine, as was suggested. The rind of all the geodes looks wrong for Madagascan celestine geodes. Calcite might be present, but again is difficult to evaluate.
The geodes are probably either from Mexico or Morocco. They all look to be igneous type in origin. BOB
