PostPosted: Sep 06, 2017 00:13    Post subject: Is this cookeite and or lepidolite on tourmaline?

Hello all,
I had a friend in town this weekend and he swore this was lepidolite and quartz on tourmaline from Pakistan.
Label says cookeite on tourmaline from Maine.
Does anybody see quartz?
I think i do see some lepidolite on side shot, bottom of first pic, and a lot of cookeite on back, pics 2 and 3. It likely has both but any clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

I do not see anything that looks like cookeite. Does the tourmaline fluoresce?

That's a good question. I do not know. My collection has not yet been influenced by fluorescent minerals. Ive often wandered if other specimens fluoresce but I do not have the lighting. Would I check longwave or shortwave?
Could you elaborate on what you do see? Thanks.

Here are a few more pictures.
So, no Cookeite seen. The mislabel makes me question the locale as well.
The thing about Tourmaline is that from locale to locale there are many similarities. So much so that it's very hard to definitively identify the region.
On that note looking like Albite on Tourmaline location unknown... If it fluoresces maybe from Maine.
