PostPosted: Oct 22, 2017 08:18    Post subject: Help identify these minerals (stumped!!!)

Hey, I'm having trouble identifying these minerals. I don't have a locality, sorry:

The first light blue one:
Hardness: Less than 3
Cleavage planes: appears to be 3
Lustre: Vitreous, opaque
Streak: White
Gravity: low-med
Crystal system is unclear, sorry :/

The second kinda blue one:
Hardness: >7
Lustre: Vitreous
Streak: White
Habit: Drusy
System: appears to be Trigonal or Orthorhombic
Gravity: low-med

Any other info need I'll be here

Using the properties you list, the first appears to be calcite and the second crystallized (drusy) quartz. A simple test for the first one would be to powder it and then add a little vinegar. It should bubble slowly if it's calcite.

The blue one is definitely Calcite after the vinegar test (I was using another piece of Calcite to test the hardness of it, whoops).

The second one is most likely quartz I guess but it's hard to tell. Probably the best bet.

Thanks :)
