PostPosted: Nov 23, 2017 05:06    Post subject: Fluorescent inclusions in quartz

Found these fluorescent inclusions in the "blue phantom" quartzes.
The same substance can also be found on the surface of the rough specimens.
I took some of the substance and burnt it, it lost it's fluorescent property immediately.
I believe that the fluorescence does not come from the inclusions themselves, but comes from some kind of fluorescent fluid.
As I already know that the blue phantom inclusions are colored by natural blue fluid and the fluid most likely to be Tetra Ammine Coppercomplex [Cu(NH3)4(H2O)2]2+.
In that case, could the fluorescent fluid also contain ammonia?

Which kind of UV source did you use for checking fluorescence?
Long wave? Short wave?

That's very likely.
I have quartzes with petroleum inclusions and they fluoresce quite the same way as the blue phantom quartz.
