Hello, I have just bought a new home and I have found a collection of minerals in the attic. I dont know anything about them - to me all rock looks alike. Can somebody help me identify them?

Welcome to the world of mineral collecting! Attic collections is an unusual way to get involved.

We can help you but you need to help us. Please read this page:

http://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?p=19487#19487

Then please do a few of the tests (hardness, streak) so that we know a bit more about each specimen. Locality information is also a great help. Without that we are really not able to help you.

Other minerals looks like crystals, stones but I have posted this picture because this mineral looks strange to me. It is maybe strange, but I have recently looked at some documentary about a ghost town and there was mention about Whitenoom and about 4 residents in it. One of them showed to the camera a crocidolite stone and to me this one looks a lot like that, but I think there should be strings on that dark grey area. Since I don't know anything about it, I am scared to touch it. I don't know the location because it looks like rocks around the world. I don't live yet there so as soon I get there I will picture every rock and post it. Thank you

Hi Mcmarc. Welcome to the forum. We are just as keen to know what you have here. Please read the suggested material and supply a few pictures in focus. Best regards.

We collect crystals, so I am sure we can hep with them if you do a few tests and upload photos that are in focus.

Thank you,
Sorry for being little absent. I am in the process of moving so I come and go and when I take time to be near computer, I was too tired to think about anything. I have a DSLR with macro 4x objective so I will take picture of every mineral that I have found.
And until I take pictures are there any resources where I can learn about it.
I never even think about minerals before. Now that I have found that collection I am interested to learn about it.
Thank you all.
